"Discovering Your Own...Teen Esteem"
Self Esteem for All Teens
Almost every girl and guy wants to look their best and be cool to know. Looking like the current super model or Adonis (the mythical Greek god) does not insure happiness, and can be a negative if other areas of one's self-development are ignored.
Many fascinating people are self-made, and having studied their own particular qualities and traits, then emphasized their positive attributes and minimized their negatives. Others who are also not so blessed in the looks department have overcome physical imperfections and problems with thoughtfulness, humor, and a positive personality that draws others to them just because others feel happier being around them. The current Super Model you may not look like, but it is possible for each and every one of you to achieve your own personal beauty, attractiveness, and individuality.
This latter type of magnetism is available to all of us, and yes, including you, my young friend. It is easier to begin now, while you're still growing mentally and perhaps physically, while you're trying to find out "who you are" and what you want out of life, or just where on earth you do fit in.
Of course it's important to look as attractive on the outside as possible--I wouldn't have had several of my careers if that hadn't always been important to me. For whether it's fair or not, we make impressions on people the moment we meet them. Confess--you've judged people yourself based on a brief meeting. I know I have. And if we don't see what we like, we turn off--and away. (The shame of it is that we then usually never get to know the person inside--who may be fantastic--or they may never take the time to know us.) And you can be sure that making a good first impression on the strangers you meet may easily change the shape of your whole life.
Remember, YOU NEVER GET A SECOND CHANCE TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION!!
"Discovering Your Own...Teen Esteem" is an holistic approach to your life, including the body as in grooming and self care; mind, as in building character, making good decisions, making and keeping friends; dating, etc.; and spirit, which includes a personal relationship with God, who loves you, cares for you, and is there for you. Why all those elements are important in teens' lives is the "botom line" of the book.
